The hub of activity in Fenit, Lockes Beach is used by visitors of all ages for a range of activities. Strolls, sandcastles or swims, on a fine day Lockes will be buzzing.
The Vibe
Traditional Irish village beach vibe. Plenty of places to sit, either on the steps, the sloping sand or the wooden benches. A constant stream of swimmers in and out of the water and the odd kayak class heading off for their paddle complete the look.
Parking
Large car park right next to the beach with additional parking on the street. However, like every other Irish beach destination on a fine summers weekend be prepared for gridlock.
Bike it
Lockes is the final point on the Tralee - Fenit Greenway with lots of new bike parking spots installed. Well worth cycling out to enjoy the Greenway and avoid the parking drama.
Great for Kids
There's a beach, a playground, toilets, Mikes Café with all the treats and great chips and sheltered water managed by lifeguards. It's ideal.
Swim Central
A large and vibrant swimming community use this beach daily. Swimming buoys mark a course for the confident swimmers and the shallow sandy bay make it ideal for dippers. Swimming classes & lifeguard training also happen here regularly.
The cons
Traffic management and parking on the very sunny summer days can be a nightmare - best avoided or park further up the village and walk down, or better again, cycle there on the greenway.
