The Fenit swimming community have received a staggering 15 nominations for the prestigious 2022 Irish Long Distance Swimming Awards. Public voting is now open for the awards which will be presented at a ceremony in November of this year.
Tralee marathon swimmer Elaine Burrows Dillane leads the nominations with 4 individual category nominations which include Female Swimmer of the Year, Munster swimmer of the year and Spirit of Open Water Swimming Award plus a further two nominations as part of the Fenit Funky Femmes team who have been nominated for their recent relay swim from Fenit to Loop Head 'Lighthouse to Lighthouse' adventure. Fenit resident and RNLI volunteer Caroline Corkery, also a member of the Funky Femmes, claims two individual nominations including Performance of the Year for her marathon swim from Blennerville to Maharees and Munster Swimmer of the year.
The ILDSA female newcomer of the year includes 4 Fenit swimming nominees including Margaret Gilbert, Sandra Martin, Collete Murray and our very own FW founder Aisling Brosnan. Rounding out the nominations is Fenit based open water swim coach and recent Irish Marathon Swimming 'Hall of Famer' Kevin Williams who is nominated for Open Water Coach of the Year.
Wowzers - so, between relay teams, epic swim challenges, new comers, world renowned marathon swimmers and internationally recognised swim coaches, it's fair to say that open water swimming in Fenit is on a massive rise. Huge credit to all of the nominees and of course the wider swimming family in Fenit and the Tralee Bay Swimming Club who all make really valuable contributions to an incredibly vibrant swimming community here in Fenit.
