You'll feel as smug as the rest of us when you you land on to Barrow at low tide and realise that there are no footprints from others and you quite literally have the place to yourself. Barrow is a remarkable place, just truly perfect sand and playful small surf waves with shelter from the cliff face at your back.    

At the bottom of the narrow road through the golf course there is parking for about 15 - 20 vehicles. Aside from that you're out of luck and will have to seek a spot back on the main road and approach by foot.

Barrow really is a tale of two tides. When the tide is low you are presented with an incredible expanse of perfectly clean and soft sand that can run for 250m out to the water. At high tide however the waves come right into the cliff face leaving little or no room for your picnic blanket. 

Approaching Barrow beach takes you through the spectacular Tralee Golf Club. An Arnold Palmer designed course ranked as one of the best in Ireland. The footpath crosses the fairway of the second hole so always take a glance up to the tee box and make sure that you're respectful of those playing through.  

The final approach down to the beach requires some light footed action across a slope of large stones. Certainly unsuitable for anything with wheels or those with reduced mobility. Take your time particularly if you're laden with a cargo of beach furniture and equipment. 

To be honest, you'll struggle to find fault with Barrow provided you can park and get across the rocks down onto the sand. The water and currents must be respected (like everywhere) as they can be somewhat unpredictable. Maybe the only inconvenience is that at high tide you're stuck for space.
