A great alternative beach in Fenit, sheltered from a prevailing breeze. Popular with locals and kids who like to plunge from the slipway. Also a great spot to park up with a coffee and enjoy an alternative view of Tralee Bay.
The Vibe
Local and relaxing at Kelly's Beach. A mainly pebble beach but if you can get a car space, reverse up to the waters edge, open the boot, and unload your basecamp for the day. Doesn't ever really feel packed down here. Bliss.
Parking
Space for about 10 cars and can get tricky when it gets busy, but its just a short walk from the street parking at the top of the lane or further up the village. The slipway is often used to launch small boats so vehicles with trailers can be frequent.
The Old Lifeboat House.
At the top of the lane where you enter Kellys Beach sits the original Fenit Lifeeboat house. One of our favourite historical buildings in Fenit, it's story and that of the Admiral Butcher whose name is carved over the door is very interesting.
Great for Kids
The slipway at high tide makes a nice launchpad for kids who like to plunge. The water is usually more sheltered on this side of the village than Lockes Beach. The likelihood of other kids playing and splashing around also provides a distraction.
Morning Light
The view from Kellys Beach towards Tralee is magnificent. If you can make it there just after dawn you will be treated to one of our favourite scenes as the sun begins to peak over the mountains on the far side of the bay and bath the whole of Fenit with a magical glow. When conditions are just right it's a treat.
The cons
Access and parking will be sticky when the sun comes out. You don't have proximity the same services like Lockes Beach. It's mainly a pebble beach with shale.
